- BAPCO - RGDP Outstanding Safety Record
-
Foster Wheeler Italiana designed and built BAPCO’s Refinery Gas Desulphurization Project (RGDP) by employing 43 local contractors over a period of three years.
During the 32-month construction period, Foster Wheeler Italiana achieved the outstanding safety record of 4.05 million employee-hours with no lost time injuries (LTI).
This US$ 151 million project is one of the most important and complex environmental projects ever undertaken by BAPCO, designed to reduce hydrogen sulphide in fuel gas to less than 150 ppm, significantly below the Bahrain Government’s environmental regulation limits of 600 ppm.
The RGDP was formally launched on May 27, 2010 at the presence of H.E. Dr. Abdul-Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Minister of Oil & Gas Affairs, Chairman of the Oil & Gas Authority (NOGA) and Chairman of BAPCO’s Board Committee. Also present were Messrs Faisal Al-Mahroos, Chief Executive of BAPCO, Marco Moresco, CEO of Foster Wheeler Italiana, and Enrico Padula, the Italian ambassador to Bahrain .
H.E. Dr. Mirza praised the professionalism of Foster Wheeler Italiana and its subcontractors, and presented Marco Moresco with a memento to celebrate this outstanding achievement. The plaque reads:

- Kuwait Olefins Company - OL2K Outstanding Performance Special Award
-
We are delighted and proud to have received a "Special Award" from The Kuwait Olefins Company for our outstanding performance in executing the engineering and procurement for the grassroots ethylene glycol unit at Kuwait's Shuaiba Industrial Area as part of the Olefins 2 Kuwait (OL2K) Project. The Kuwait Olefins Company is a joint venture between The Dow Chemical Company and Petrochemical Industries Company.
This new world-scale ethylene glycol unit, with a capacity of 600,000 tonnes per year, was successfully started up in July 2008.
Combining the project execution skills of three Foster Wheeler offices, we were able to safely deliver an accelerated 31-month schedule, an impressive achievement considering market conditions and the significant quantities and sizes of materials.During the late 1990s we successfully completed another 340,000 tonnes per year ethylene glycol plant for the same owner, at the same location.
- IPMA - International Project Excellence Award 2008 for Lomellina 2 project
-
Our Milan team has received the prestigious International Project Management Association (IPMA) Project Excellence Award 2008 for its Lomellina 2 project in Italy. The award was announced at IPMA’s 22nd Annual Congress, which took place in Rome in November 2008.Established in 1965, IPMA was the world’s first project management association and is now an international network for project management societies throughout the world, with more than 30,000 members in over 40 countries.
Foster Wheeler designed and built the Lomellina 2 waste-to-energy plant, which processes 180,000 tonnes per year of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to generate 25 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
At the heart of the Lomellina 2 plant is a Foster Wheeler designed and supplied circulating fluidised-bed (CFB) boiler. This CFB technology was selected to burn RDF and to produce steam for the generation of electricity because of its excellent environmental performance.
“We are indeed extremely pleased to be the 2008 winner of this prestigious international award. The Lomellina 2 project is one of many successful Foster Wheeler projects that demonstrate the extent to which world-class project management tools and procedures are deeply embedded in our organisation worldwide. The Lomellina 2 team delivered a high quality facility in a very challenging schedule of 26 months from kick-off to commercial operation and we are proud that the team has achieved international recognition for its achievements.” , said Marco Moresco, CEO Foster Wheeler Italiana. We also had a very striking exhibition stand at IPMA in Rome, which was attended by nearly 1,000 delegates from 40 countries around the world.
