FOSTER WHEELER AWARDED ENVIRONMENTAL CONTRACT IN ALBANIA BY UNITED NATIONS
ZUG, SWITZERLAND, December 3, 2009--Foster Wheeler AG (Nasdaq: FWLT) announced today that its Global Engineering and Construction Group has been awarded a consultancy contract by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to conduct environmental impact assessments of ten high-priority contaminated areas in Albania.
Foster Wheeler’s contract value, which was not disclosed, was included in the company’s third-quarter 2009 bookings.
The contract is part of a major remediation program funded by the government of the Netherlands to support the Albanian government in achieving its objective to rehabilitate polluted areas to meet basic safety standards through intervention in “hot spot” areas and elimination of toxic materials.
Foster Wheeler will undertake the design for decontamination of the high priority areas and management of the whole project. The company’s Albanian and Greek technical partners for this project will manage the relationships with the Public Authorities and will execute the Environmental Impact Studies.
In addition, Foster Wheeler will organize meetings and workshops to keep the local stakeholders informed about the remediation and clean-up plan for the high priority areas.
The project is expected to be completed by first quarter 2010.
